In a recent post we showed that larger product lines can negatively impact an artist's average $/head and that 3 items make up the majority of Gross Sales.
We've received a lot of requests from artists interested to know what these metrics look like for their particular genre. So in this post we take a deeper look at the top five genres by number of shows in 2021 and their top 3 selling items.

Of the genre's we looked at, pop has the highest with 69% of Gross Merchandise Sales coming from just 3 items. One important thing to note is that although the lowest percentage is country with 56%, that is still majority of sales!
Now let's get into what makes up the top 3 items for each genre. Starting with Pop!
Pop
T-shirts and pullover hoodies make up the top 3 items, with long sleeves and zip-up hoodies in 4th and 5th.
Rock
Of the 5 genre's we look at in this post, Rock has the least variation...they are all t-shirts. In 4th place is pullover hoodie's and 5th are long sleeve shirts.
Country
Overall, country has a wider assortment of accessories and non apparel items in their product lines. Koozies were barely edged out of 3rd place and hats came in 5th.
Hip-Hop/Rap
A close 3rd for Hip-Hop/Rap artists was a pullover hoodie, barely losing to t-shirt.
Alternative
Alternative artists have the most diverse top selling items. In 4th place was a zip-up hoodie.
